Country Director, Tanzania
John is AgriFin’s country director in Tanzania, as well as the Program’s Locust & COVID Digital Response Manager and Digital Climate-Smart Advisor for East Africa. He brings over 12 years’ experience in social entrepreneurship, international development and agriculture. Having started his career in politics, on President Barack Obama’s campaign, he worked with a green economy pioneer, Majora Carter, to advise the global public sector on climate adaptation solutions.
Prior to joining AgriFin, John led global strategy implementation for Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA), an Alliance of multinational agri-focused organizations that aims to “make markets work better for smallholder farmers”. He joined the Alliance as the FtMA country coordinator for Rwanda and then Zambia, leading country operations within the United Nations World Food Programme.
John holds a BA in International Development from the University of East Anglia and an MA in Social Entrepreneurship from Goldsmiths College, University of London. In 2015 John was awarded the Acumen Global Fellowship, a 1 year leadership development program designed to equip leaders to positively transform society. While on the fellowship he worked side by side with management teams at the largest ambulance company in India and a coffee social enterprise in Rwanda.
